The Scanetica scanner has been slightly modified to allow the user to choose the resolution of their model. The 'Highest' level is best for very detailed models, but is slow when being viewed. The 'Lowest' level gives very fast, easily manipulated models, but have a low level of physical detail.

Scanetica has released an updated version of the software which can be used to produce 3D models from two photographs using one hand held camera. A camera mount or camera guide is no longer necessary.

Elimination of the requirement to carefully align the cameras means some camera phones now give acceptable photographs.

The Scanner software has been modified so that the photographs no longer need to be uploaded onto our server. The photographs stay on your local computer and all processing of the stereo photographs is carried out on your computer. However this means that your computer must have Microsoft Silverlight installed to run the scanner.

The scanner engine has also been updated to give higher quality 3D models, and to allow the models themselves to be downloaded independent of the Scanetica Flash Viewer.

The Scanner has also been modified to enable it to use any pair of stereophotographs, which removes the upper size limitation. The scanner can now be used for any sized subject. Of particular interest is its application to producing 3D models of landforms using satellite images.

September 2008

Scanetica Pty Ltd has released a new 3D scanning program for making 3D models of human faces. It is an internet based solution to the problem of easily producing 3D models. It uses the principle of stereophotography and does not require specialized equipment, such as lasers or light projectors. It does not require downloading or installation of any software.

The Scanner can also be used for other similar sized subjects with either one or two cameras.

Currently it is completely free to use, and the models can be obtained embedded in a Scanetica Flash Viewer for displaying a model on a website.
