This model was made of a fossil trilobite embedded in the rock surface. Trilobites were creatures that inhabited the Earth's oceans between 540 and 250 million years ago. Their fossils are relatively common, being found embedded in rock strata which date from that time. They varied in size, but this one was about 15 mm long.

The photographs were taken using a hand held camera from a distance of about 10 cm.
